Strong Women Series: Linda Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)

It’s a Wednesday, so I’ve got another strong woman for you to learn about. Today’s focus is on one of the most hilarious, animated “lean, mean, mom-jean, revenge machine’ ladies out there- the lovely Linda Belcher.

Yesterday was my mom’s birthday, so what a better way to celebrate than honoring one of my (and my own mom’s) favorite TV moms? (Plus all the real birthday celebrating we actually did, ha).

Let’s get into the reasons why I just seriously love Linda.

For one, she knows how to have fun.

I’ve found in some TV shows that the ‘mom’ character is typically given less of a personality, and most of the action they have revolves around just being a mom- and I mean, don’t get me wrong; mom’s are amazing. But, I feel as though some writes lack giving depth to the mother figures, or stop their personalities beyond the hi-jinks of their family life.
But Linda is her own woman, with her own desires, hobbies and skill sets- which I love.

Episodes of Bob’s Burgers that focus on Linda are great because they focus on her as an individual… and it just so happens that that individual also has amazing taste.

For instance… [READ ON FOR MORE – POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR SHOW]

When Linda wanted more from date nights with Bob, and he said no, Linda didn’t quit- She went out there and got what she wanted! She took the plane lessons that she had originally planned for herself and Bob by herself!

Yeah, the pilot was a creep and pretended to crash the plane, but that’s not her fault, and she still made the choice to pursue things she liked on her own.

Plus, when the scrub tried to get schmoozy with her, she headbutted him WHILE holding a glass of wine.

My hero.

We also find out in other episodes that she has tons of hobbies, and shares great things with people in her life. She takes her son out for free samples (and continues without him), lets her typically outspoken, brash daughter (Louise, obvi.) show her softer side by taking her to pet puppies (without telling the other kids), etc. She’s constantly so supportive of her children, and it’s amazing. Plus, when they’re all trapped in Wonder Wharf by a bunch of turkeys, she ‘pecks’ (headbutts) one of them and becomes Alpha Turkey. She’s a badass.

Plus, we know she’s literally a strong-willed woman, standing from the ‘Eat, Spray, Linda’ episode (season 5, ep. 18)¬†alone, where it was Linda’s birthday, and she gets locked out of her car, and has to trek through the wilderness home on her own (getting sprayed by a skunk twice, no phone, splitting her pants, etc). She’s crazy. I love her. Like, who gets banned for eating too many free samples? My girl Linda. That’s who.

Plus, as time goes by, she proves herself more and more. She supports her family so proudly, no matter what they do.

In any case, Linda Belcher is a STRONG WOMAN, and this Wednesday, I salute her! I love the Belcher family so much, and Linda is the perfect headwoman for their group.

You go girl!
